Lamma Island, known as Pok Liu Chau in ancient time, is the third largest island in Hong Kong. Situated at the southwest of Hong Kong Island, it has a total area of 13.6 square kilometres. The land of the northern part of the island is flat and people inhabit mostly around Pak Kok Tsuen, Yung Shue Wan, and Hung Shing Yeh Beach. The earliest archaeological finds of Hong Kong were found back in the 50s on Lamma Island, showing that it has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Lamma Island is tranquil and peaceful attracting many expatriates and younger people to move to the island. There are many western restaurants and pubs opened on the main street creating a unique romantic atmosphere. Other than delicacies, there are many small shops selling handmade art crafts, green products, and all sorts of handmade biscuits along Yung Shue Wan Street. |
